Five New TS Advocates Trained for the State of Ohio
In conjunction with our annual conference in October, five new advocates were trained to aid our TS members in Ohio. Debbie Meyer, Cheryl Paynter, Kyle Rose, Sally Steward, and Susan Stull participated in the training session taught by Kathy Giordano. Addtionally, Sandy Bowen, Education Chair-OH, and Dan Rostan, National Field Services VP were also able to attend. As a result of this training, the new advocates received tips and strategies to develop a working relationship and respected reputation with school districts and parents. This will enable schools to see advocates as a positive resource in their districts. We also received an overview of specific laws that impact students with TS, including websites that provide easy access to specific laws from IDEA and state and federal regulations. Lastly, we learned valued information about Functional Behavior Assessments, positive behavior intervention plans and manifestation determination laws. all of which will aid us in furthering the education of people in Ohio about Tourette Syndrome. If you are in need of these services, please contact our office by phone or email.
The following organizations are the latest to benefit from the free in-services offered to schools and other institutions in Ohio to better educate them about Tourette Syndrome and to provide information on ways to better help students and families dealing with the disorder. As always, we are truly grateful for the time and talent of our volunteer in-service providers, who periodically complete a refresher training course to keep them current on ways to help our families.
