Funding crisis continues!

Your Tourette Syndrome Association of Ohio is in critical need of ongoing funding, especially to pay the costs associated with our three biggest expenses: the annual summer Adventure Weekend for children, our state conferences, and the newsletter, the Tic-ertape. As you know, the TSA of Ohio also provides valuable information for families, important services such as in-services for educators, and so much more. All of that costs money, and we are currently operating at a significant loss. Any donations of any size at this time would help us – and you – tremendously. We are seeking ideas for fund-raising, sponsorships, anything that can help us raise more money to provide all the services we do for our members and to help raise public awareness about TS. Please send any donations to P.O. Box 28345, Columbus, OH 43228-0345. We welcome any and all suggestions for raising money – just e-mail us at admin@tsaohio.org, or call (800) 543-2675 (Ohio/Northern Kentucky) or (614) 539-1795.

Sponsor an adventurer!

You can help make a summer so much more special for a young person with TS by sponsoring him or her so Adventure Weekend is affordable for them, when because of meds or other costs, it might not be. If you’re interested, get in touch with the TSA of Ohio office at 800-543-2675, or e-mail us at admin@tsaohio.org.

We need your help!

As everyone is aware, the TSA of Ohio is always in great need. We are a nonprofit organization that relies entirely on donations, with no regular income, to do a great amount of good for lots of people all across Ohio and Northern Kentucky. We are one of the few local chapters of the TSA that has remained active for many years, and it’s solely because so many people have been so generous with their time and money for so long. However, the critical need for help of all kinds continues.

Following is a short list of our most urgent current needs. If anyone can provide anything in the way of helping with any of them, it would be greatly appreciated:

1. Money! Let’s put it right up front. We are chronically and critically short of funding, as we have been for years. In addition to donations, we are always seeking ideas for fund-raising, sponsorships, anything that can help us to raise more money so we can pay the costs associated with our three biggest expenses: the annual summer Adventure Weekend for children, our state conferences, and the newsletter you’re reading, the Tic-ertape.
2. A volunteer content editor for our website. Though much improved from where it was a year ago, we need to make it much more interactive, as well as to be able to update it far more often than we have been. This person would be responsible for gathering material of all kinds and submitting it for review to our board and then having our web master put it on the website. We see our website as being our primary way of communicating with our membership in the future, so this is a crucial position.
3. A fund-raising/public relations coordinator. This position, also volunteer, is self-explanatory – to be the point person for all our fund-raising and PR efforts. As with all our other volunteers, this person would report to the board.
4. A secretary. This is a board position that is currently vacant. The secretary is responsible for keeping track of minutes of all board meetings, as well as compiling correspondence on behalf of the board and the TSA of Ohio.
5. Other board members. Our bylaws allow for a total of 15 board members, but only eight are currently filled. More people willing to work on our board would mean we could accomplish so much more. Board members are asked to serve two-year terms, during which their attendance is expected at a total of eight board meetings and two annual conferences, all in Columbus.
6. A coordinator for an electronic newsletter about our support groups. Called the Tic-ertab, it’s an abbreviated and more frequent version of this newsletter, geared strictly toward news and updates regarding our support groups around the state. This volunteer would need to keep in regular touch with all support group leaders, check with the board, and send out the Tic-ertab on a regular basis.

If anyone has anything they can contribute, whether it’s donations of money, time, or ideas, send them our way! Our mailing address is P.O. Box 28345, Columbus, OH 43228-0345. E-mail us at admin@tsaohio.org. Or call (800) 543-2675 (Ohio/Northern Kentucky) or (614) 539-1795.
