Annual Conference - October 18th, 2008
Attention 2008 Annual Conference Date Set.
TSA of Ohio has scheduled their 2008 Annual Conference for Saturday, October
18,
2008. It will be held again at Columbus Children's Hospital.
2007 state conference draws dozens to Columbus
The 2007 Tourette Syndrome Association of Ohio conference was a big success, with dozens of people attending from all over Ohio and elsewhere to learn about the latest ideas in living with Tourette Syndrome.
Our keynote speaker, Sarah Crowther of Landmark College in Vermont, spoke about the challenges that special-needs students and their families face when going to college.
Kathy Giordano, advocacy specialist for the national TSA, gave her famous "Baggage" speech, as well as speaking later about Functional Behavioral Assessment, Positive Behavioral Intervention Plans, and IDEA.
Susan Conners, education specialist with the national TSA, spoke with parents, teachers, and others on "What Makes Us Tic?"
A small but enthusiastic group of adults with TS met to discuss adult issues of employment, legal matters and more. An idea was broached that we should pursue an adult version of the wildly popular "Adventure Weekend," which we intend to do sometime in the warm months of 2008. Watch this website, your Tic-ertape newsletter, or your e-mail for more on this!
More than anything, the conference was, as always, a chance to meet new people informally and talk about the multifaceted challenges and successes that TS brings to all of us. We are excited to be already planning our next state conference, to be in October 2008, probably again at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus. Stay tuned!
Thanks to conference organizer Sandy Bowen for her fine work, and as always to our hard-working administrative staff members, Debbie Meyer and Denise Cowan.
